Write Me Something! Guest Author Call
So, as alluded to in this topic, I'm up to my eyeballs in poetry. I currently have 18 more acrostics to write, and since I want to get them done in a timely manner, I'm putting most of my creative energies towards that. Add in a site I'm designing for a coworker, no less than three papers I need to critique for friends, my day job, life's typical nuisances and I'm not left with much time to write poetry not related to the chapbook or to work on weblit resources articles.
That's where you come in. This is your chance to have a piece of your work featured on GabrielGadfly.com. I'm currently accepting submissions for:
- Original poetry
- Original short fiction (up to 3,000 words)
- Weblit related tutorial articles and/or tips & tricks articles (350-1500 words, written to an audience of aspiring and established weblit authors)
- Other, random stuff. Surprise me.
I'm planning two weeks of guest content, beginning as early as Monday (if I get any viable submissions by then) at a rate of 1-3 pieces per day. I know that's short notice, but hey, that's how I roll.
You'll retain all copyrights to your work; you're simply granting me a license to host the content on my website. You will, of course, receive credit in the form of an "About the Author" blurb and up to three weblinks. I reserve the right to reject any content that I don't feel is up to the quality of the content I normally host on my site, but I don't foresee that being a problem -- you guys are talented peeps.
Why you should submit:
Guest authoring on another blog is a great way to attract readers. I average 400+ visitors a day to my website. That's quite a few pairs of eyes looking at you work. Since your work will also be linked to your website, that can also help you out in the search engines.
Interested? Drop me a line. I'm available here, Twitter, my site, AIM, Yahoo, and Googletalk. gabrielgadfly at all of them.
Hi Gabriel,
I have a reasonably self contained excerpt from Eclipse Court. Several short poems, and possibly a little essay on living phrases that are still used, though long obsolete.
You know, I have some poetry I'm quite happy with sitting around from the class I took in college. I think I'll submit some of that. I'm not going to do anything else with it and it's worth sharing, I think!
I'd really like to see an article from you about your experiences migrating from the dead tree world to the weblit world -- you're one of the few of us that has been published in the traditional world, so it's an interesting angle some of the rest of us don't have.
What do you mean by "living phrases that are still used, though long obsolete"? That sounds like an interesting piece, but how does it relate to weblit?
Awesome.
The majority of my readers come for the poetry, so that category will likely get the most attention.
All three of you are welcome to submit -- just send your piece to me at gabrielgadfly at gmail dot com.

Sure -- I could whip that one off in a sec -- but as I said, my priority is attracting readers. Can I get a fiction piece in, too? I have one that relates to but is not part of Philosopher in Arms... it's just a tad long at 3700 or so.
How about doggerel. I'm a doggerel poet. I'm pretty good at it. Give me a topic and I'll write you something silly.
Go ahead and send your fiction piece along. 3700 is fine.
Awesome.
Here's a topic: "vagabonds"
LOL -- I want to read MeiLin's doggerel already
Both pieces coming. I'm 1K words and three diagrams into "Dead-tree to weblit in 15 seconds" already. Want bio-blurbs as well or are you doing those yourself?
Oh well if *silly* is okay, how about a villanelle I once wrote about pork?
@GabrielGadfly I have the article done at about 1700 but have to hold off submitting it till tomorrow because I got emotional writing the conclusion, and so can't see it clearly for the read-back. But it's still coming.
Include your own About the Author thing. Nothing long -- just a few sentences.
capriox, send it to me and I'll look it over.
I've got a short piece called Cat In The Apartment. I'll have to check on it for word count, but it's essentially the life of a cat who lives in the apartment of a super hero.
Sounds good. Word counts are pretty loose. I don't mind if it's a little chunky -- I just don't want to be hosting any particularly long works.
I'd like to submit a poem. it's done more in the style of spoken word poetry than 'traditional' poetry. would that be alright? it seems that the majority of the work on your site is classically done.
Send it to me and we'll see. Since I've been doing more poetry slams, more spoken-word type stuff is showing up on my site.
If it has to be unseen as of this posting then I got nothing, but I whipped up an "in-story" poem awhile ago. It's pretty cheesy, but you can take a look at it if you're interested. It's on my site here: http://deadboyfriend.com/sidestory/hunterbold
Keep in mind I'm no kind of poet, it's just a random thing my muse came up with.

Thanks for the opportunity, Gabriel. I am definitely interested but poetry and short fiction aren't my outlets of comfort. Writing tips maybe, but my priority right now is attracting readers. Given a choice I'd do an excerpt, but I gather you want self-contained pieces. Let me see if I can dig up anything suitable out of the Chevenga files, or come up with an idea...
I used to think my writing was horribly perverse, and now I worry that it's not perverse enough for the Internet.
