Er...

Not sure I have any that would be of use here - I am the woman who only just discovered how to enlarge text on screen thanks to a comment here about someone's grandma Smile

That is one of the reasons why I have not volunteered to help out with the AntholoZine.

Copy editing / proofreading
Typesetting
Layout, although primarily self-taught
Unemployed husband with high-speed internet connection*
Knitting, sewing, bookbinding
(I have done cosplay-style costumes)
Baking
HTML, of course
Knowledge that might be useful to others - most pre-industrial skills (I'm not a member of the SCA but I play one at the LARPS), encyclopedic geek knowledge, some fashion history and a good idea of where to go for the rest, knowledge of poetic forms, power tools, the construction industry, social services...

* This counts as a skill, really.

I guess I'm like Miladysa -- I don't possess many skills of use, and the few I do have someone else can likely do much better. But anyway, here's what I can offer:

Graphic design. Photo manipulation. (Photoshop)

Traditional and digital art -- traditional media skills are limited to ink and graphite (some pastel too, with patience and luck).

Digital video editing. I've done fan music videos using Windows Movie Maker. I've gotten used to the faulty program and have managed some reasonable effects with it.

Count me in with Miladysa and Illise ... not sure how much expertise I bring to any table when the other chairs are filled with people much more experienced than I.

But FWIW, my strengths are:

- Brainstorming

- Editing (both copy/line editing and bigger picture dramaturgy)

- Web design (it's what I do for the big bucks; I work with plain HTML, Dreamweaver & Photoshop)

- vBulletin message board software (the EpiGuide won vB.com's Board of the Month)

- Research (that's what I used to do for the not-so-big bucks, as a fundraising researcher at Carnegie Hall Smile). I'm quite good at tracking down elusive data. Sheer stubborn doggedness helps.

- Singing (musical theater, opera, pop standards)

Yeah, I'm in the "not sure what skills people can use" group too.

Hopefully, I'll have a B.A. in Psychology and Creative writing by 2010/2011. I spent 3 years in sciences... if that means anything. I have a love/hate relationship with organic chemistry. I'm hoping to take a class in voice acting, theatre, and screenwriting and prose poetry. I want to eventually get an MFA, but I'm in that "OMG, what am I going to do with my life? I don't want to work. I want to stay in school forever" stage.

Mothering (Does motherhood count as a skill?)

Absolutely.

> Mothering (Does motherhood count as a skill?)

Yes, absolutely, and I'll give you a direct example why from my own experience.

When I wrote and published my dead-tree novels, in which my characters have kids, I was in my 20s and not yet a mom myself. When I came back 20 years later to revise them to go on the Internet, my kids were aged 14 and 11. I looked at my own writing about parenting and thought, 'Wow, I really didn't have a clue, and it shows, and anyone who read this who's a parent would see.' And I heavily revised the parts where Chevenga, my main character, is growing up, and then when he has kids of his own, to reflect the knowledge I had gained.

Parenting is such a complex and subtle activity and learning experience that you really can't replicate it in writing, if you're going into it in any depth, unless you've experienced it (or if you consult with someone who has!). I imagine you have an idea of the nuts and bolts aspect if you have much younger siblings (I didn't) or if you were involved closely in the raising of, say, a relative's child (I wasn't). But the feeling of looking at or being with your own children is like nothing else in the world.

I feel strangely unskilled.

I suppose my skills are:
-Editing & proof-reading
-Brainstorming
-Fluent Italian, nearly fluent Spanish, strong French
-Organization (ask Jan)
-BA in Linguistics (knowledge of phonetics & syntax)
-MA in Publishing (I'm strong on the law knowledge esp.)

Life experiences?

-Teaching English
-Working as a fundraiser
-Working as a translator
-Having chicken pox as an adult (lol!)
