At the risk of being rude, rather than run a contest you should pay someone for a proper cover. Covers can make or break a book. I did the cover for the Scryer's Gulch eps 1-10 chapbook myself, but only because it wasn't meant to sink or swim as a book on its own; it's more a courtesy to my readers who prefer reading offline. The covers for the Intimate History books will be professionally produced and paid for. Artists deserve to be paid for their work, just as we deserve compensation for what we do.
Ask your readers to contribute towards a cover fund. I did that with my readers and was able to hire my editor. I used advance sales at a premium price of $50, and raised the money for my editor in less than a week. The readers who bought in will get the ebook version even before the printer, and will receive an autographed copy as soon as the book arrives at my house. I think I threw in some other benefits, too, which currently escape me.
