Bandwidth Usage
Another I'm-bored-and-stuck-on-this-scene question:
I've been considering getting really minimalist hosting. With just text I'm sure my bandwidth ususage wouldn't be even close to surpassing this, but I'm also going to be doing an audio-book version. I was hoping to pick the brains of those of you who have been doing this for a while about what your average bandwidth usage tends to be (even if you don't have audiobook versions) in relation to your readership.
Thanks!
Cool, even though your content is different than mine will be (shorter but many many many), you've got the multi-media going on, so it's nice to throw that into the average.
Angryhost offers an even cheaper plan, $1/month, but they don't offer SQL databases with that, and in my understanding I'll need one to run Drupal.
Thanks!
EDIT: Huh, I just found an even cheaper hosting service which seems to be a better deal. I'll have to do more research on their company.
Yes, Drupal does require an SQL database and PHP.
I probably don't need to say this, but it's worth mentioning that you want to look at more than price when deciding on hosting -- uptime (and in my experience, the advertised "99.9% uptime" that every host says they have and the real uptime you'll experience are very different), customer service, content policies, etc. all float into the mix.
Yeah, that super-cheap one has a couple of things that make me leery. Web Fiction Guide uses Angry Hosting, which is kind of like a referral, but I don't know how I'd go about finding sites that use 1-Dollar-Hosting.
A big thing to remember is that its not just bandwidth, but processing power. Databases and forums and blogs take a lot of processing power for the bandwidth, and cheap hosts will sometimes cut you off based on that.

May not be a bad idea if you need to save a bit of cash. At my site's peak, back in December, I used 5 gig of bandwidth, with 33K pageviews. I do offer downloadable MP3s and PDFs through my site, so that increases my bandwidth usage a little bit, and probably half a gig of that comes from some of the other sites I run on the same account. Lately, with drastically lower traffic numbers, I'm averaging about 1-2 gigs per month.
